Fort Walton Beach City Council members met in Strategic Planning Meetings on April 18 and May 9, 2023 to determine their top priorities for the City going forward. The planning sessions identified three overall strategic priorities:

Public Safety & Vagrancy
Recreation Services/Expansion
Employee Retention

Major Projects

There are several major projects currently underway in Fort Walton Beach or coming soon. Some of these are City of Fort Walton Beach projects, and others, like the Brooks Bridge Replacement and the Around the Mound rerouting of U.S. Highway 98, are Florida Department of Transportation projects.

2023 Major projects (ongoing)

Brooks Bridge Replacement - multi-year FDOT project
Fort Walton Beach Landing - multi-year project

Museum Addition - completion date of April 2024
Cemetery Administrative Building - completion date of April 2024
