
The Fort Walton Beach City Council took the following actions during the regular meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2023.
RESOLUTIONS:
2023-18 Resolution to Accept FDOT Grant for the Coral Creek Nature Trail
Recommends City Council adoption of Resolution 2023-18 authorizing the City Manager to execute a grant agreement with the Florida Department of Transportation accepting grant funding in the amount of $300,000 for the design and construction of Coral Creek Nature Trail.
2023-19 Resolution Supporting Okaloosa County's Correspondence to NOAA RE Vessel Speed Restrictions.
Recommends City Council adoption of Resolution 2023-19 in support of the Okaloosa County Board of County Commissioners attached correspondence dated October 3, 2023, requesting that the National Marine Fisheries Service (“NMFS”), National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (“NOAA”) and the U.S. Department of Commerce (“Commerce”) reconsider their proposed rule concerning Designation of Critical Habitat for Rice’s whale (NOAA-NMFS-2023-0028).
RESULT: Passed 5-0
The City Council heard from three different groups proposing workforce housing developments within Fort Walton Beach and seeking support from the City’s Workforce Housing Incentive Fund.
The City Council also heard from Niceville Senior Center Director Julie Mooney about a proposed Northwest Florida Regional Aquatic Center and got a briefing on the current economic state of the city from Nathan Sparks, executive director of One Okaloosa Economic Development Council.
Mayor Dick Rynearson and City Manager Jeff Peters recognized Raphael Ousley, Sheila Mercier, Josh Stevens, Daniel Corrigan and Nate Sutrick for their 15 years of service with the city. Taylor Esquibel was also recognized for his five years of service with the city.
Mayor Dick Rynearson read a proclamation supporting Making Strides Against Breast Cancer's upcoming Annual Walk this Saturday at Northwest Florida State College in Niceville.
The next regular meeting of the Fort Walton Beach City Council is at 6 p.m. on Oct. 24, 2023, in the City Council Chamber at 107 Miracle Strip Pkwy SW.
