The currently has two designated brownfield areas and two brownfield sites.
There are many benefits to having a brownfields program in the community.
Businesses in designated areas become eligible for financial incentives, including job creation bonus refund of up to $2,500 per job, a 50% loan guarantee, and sales tax exemption on building materials if the company has an active Brownfield Site Rehabilitation Agreement (BSRA) to clean up the site in place with the State.
Businesses in designated areas are also eligible for liability protection, voluntary cleanup corporate income tax credits, and technical assistance.
Most importantly, a brownfields program provides a mechanism to assess underutilized lands, and if necessary, to remediate those lands in order to return the property to productive use.
